Today the SGBV working group with the support of UNHCR Uganda have been launching the 16 days of activism which starts on the 25th of November 2019 to 10th of December 2019. The launch started in the morning with Zumba at InterAid Uganda head office then followed by a Justice match to Old Kampala playground. The theme of the day has been; “ORANGE THE WORD: PEACEFUL CO-EXISTANCE IS A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY”. All of us in our capacity have a responsibility stand up for Gender equality and end Violence in our homes, schools, at work and all other social places. We also need to break the silence and speak up against violence especially that violence against women since women’s Rights are human rights. We need the men and boys to participate in the action to end gender violence in order to have a peaceful co-existence amongst ourselves. Cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation to mention but a few are another cause of gender based violence which has to be put to an end through advocacy, religious leaders and political leaders. Therefore, we should not end 16 days of Activism today and now but instead we should continue with it wherever we are. Special thank goes to Office of the Prime Minister, all the refugees and implementing partners that is UGAFODE Microfinance Limited – MDI, Jesuit Refugee Services, Caformi, International Rescue Committee, Raising Gabdho foundation, Danchurchaid, ARPAC, Uganda Red Cross Society, for attending the 16 days of Activism launch.
