InterAid Uganda marks World Refugee Day

InterAid Uganda joined the rest of the world in marking the World Refugee Day on 20th June 2012 under the theme “1 family torn a part by war is too many”. It involved matching from InterAid Uganda’s offices to Old Kampala Primary School, where the celebrations took place. Speaking on this occasion, the representative of the board of directors InterAid Uganda conglatulated all the people who were present upon the world refugee day, and assured the refugee community of renewed commitment to working with the refugees so that they are reorganized to live in peace and dignity. She thanked different stakeholders involved in addressing refugee issues most especially UNHCR, WFP and government of Uganda through OPM among others. She thanked UNHCR and OPM for their continued support over the years in addressing refugee issues here in Kampala. Speaking at the same function, UNHCR’s country representative Uganda thanked the government of Uganda for hosting refugees fleeing conflicts from the neighbouring countries and giving them home. Uganda’s minister for disaster preparedness and refugees Mr. Stephene Malinga thanked development partners who have assisted government of Uganda in handling refugees.
